First Sunday of Advent 2013: “A Hebrew Son Cast into the Nileâ€
“When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,†she said, ‘I drew him out of the wate’r” (Exodus 2:10). “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
Christmas in Genesis
This Advent season, I’m planning to start a Christmas series one week earlier, on November 18. There will be three sermons on a mini-series, “Christmas in Genesis.”
Born to Be “Like His Brothers in Every Respect”
Notwithstanding images of a “super baby†at his birth, Jesus was like any other baby born in this world by a woman. We hear cute little children in Christmas pageants singing, “The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes.†No, the baby Jesus did cry.
“The Son Fulfilled the Righteous Requirement of the Lawâ€
Christ “became a curse†to redeem us from the “curse of the law†(Gal 3:13). He was “born under the law†to redeem us who were “under the law†(Gal 4:4-5).
