The devil is the father of liars, deceivers, slanderers, and false accusers. But our God is the God of truth. Who do you believe and obey?
All your labors to live peacefully and with prosperity on this earth will ultimately be in vain if you do not receive the food and drink of eternal life that Christ worked for throughout his life all the way to his ultimate sacrifice for you.
In 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Paul summarizes God’s will for us: “our sanctification†or holiness. In this regard, the Catechism says we are to “live chastely and modestly, whether in holy marriage or single life.â€
Man was crowned with glory and honor, being made a little lower than the angels. Like man, after first being made lower than the angels, Jesus was later crowned with honor and glory at his resurrection from the dead and ascension into heaven at God’s right hand.
I remember our younger days when our Lord’s Day practically started on Saturday evening. We all ironed our clothes and spit-shined our shoes. My mother prepared our meals for Sunday. There was no staying late on Saturday nights, because there were no malls, no computers, no video games, not even late-night parties.
How about calling believers or the church “Jesus Freaks,†“The Revolution,†“Elevation,†“Resurgence†or “The Carpenter’s Shed.†An emergent church is called “The Scum of the Earth Church,†with a newsletter called “Rubbish.†Its pastor says he works for this church because he was “hoodwinked by the Holy Spirit†and wrote a book called Pure Scum! No, the church is none of those things, because we are a Holy Nation, a Royal Priesthood, God’s Treasured Possession, a people for whom the holy “I Am†gave his own life!
We see this pattern of worship throughout the Old Testament: the people offer their sacrifices for sin, God sends fire from heaven, and the people worship with joy and reverence.
Our iPhones, iPads and other iToys have become iDols, where “i” means me, my and mine.
Being “led†by the Spirit does not only mean being “guided†by the Spirit, but that the Spirit is actually leading the Christian to put to death his sinful passions and desires. The Spirit obligates and compels the Christian to holiness. When the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan, the Spirit did not suggest to Jesus to go to the wilderness. The Spirit “immediately drove him out into the wilderness.”
