New Sermon Series: A Little Church in the House, Raising and Strengthening a Godly Household

“The families of Christians should be little Churches; or, Wherever we have a house, God should have a Church in it.”

This is my first shot at our next sermon series. Our elders and deacons agreed on this next subject. So I found this book by Matthew Henry, A Church in the House, Or Family Religion (1704), and made a six-part schedule based on the book. This will also be a good segue to Elder David Meengs’ teaching on Biblical counseling and discipleship.

Scripture texts for exposition to be announced later. Here’s the tentative schedule:

July 20: A True Church, A True House (Introduction)
July 27: “Give Ear, O My People, to My Teaching” (Doctrine in Family Worship)
August 3: “I Will Tell of Your Name to My Brothers” (Psalm-singing in Family Worship)
August 10: “Let the Little Children Come to Me” (Prayers in Family Worship)
August 24: “The Sons of Eli Were Worthless Men” (Family Discipline Through Doctrine and Worship)
