What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:11-13 ESV).

Assurance of Pardon: Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 70

Q. What is it to be washed with the blood and Spirit of Christ?
A. It is to have the forgiveness of sins from God through grace, for the sake of Christ’s blood, which He shed for us in His sacrifice on the cross; and also to be renewed by the Holy Spirit and sanctified to be members of Christ, so that we may more and more die unto sin and lead holy and blameless lives.

Response of Gratitude

Psalm of Thanksgiving: O Lord, Regard Me When I Cry (Psa 27) #49:1-2

Creedal Response: Excerpted from Belgic Confession Article 21

We believe that Jesus Christ was confirmed by an oath to be a High Priest for ever. He presented Himself in our place before His Father, appeasing God’s wrath by His full satisfaction, offering Himself on the tree of the cross, where He poured out His precious blood to purge away our sins,as the prophets had foretold. Like a lamb He was led to the slaughter. He was numbered with the transgressors and condemned as a criminal by Pontius Pilate, though he had first declared Him innocent. He restored what He had not stolen. He died as the righteous for the unrighteous. He suffered in body and soul, feeling the horrible punishment caused by our sins. Finally, He exclaimed, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” All this He endured for the forgiveness of our sins.
